2026-10-29 - Canada Time Change on November 1, 2026
Effective Date: November 1, 2026
From November 1, 2026, British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Manitoba stop changing their clocks. They keep their current summer time all year.
Most displays don't know about this change yet. Set the timezone from the table below in Box before November 1, otherwise displays in these regions move their clock back one hour and show the wrong time.
Which timezone to set
| Region | Time all year | If the display is set to | Change it to |
|---|---|---|---|
| British Columbia | UTC−7 | America/Vancouver | America/Phoenix |
| Alberta | UTC−6 | America/Edmonton | America/Regina |
| Northwest Territories | UTC−6 | America/Yellowknife or America/Inuvik | America/Regina |
| Manitoba | UTC−5 | America/Winnipeg | America/Bogota |
Box will then show a city outside Canada, such as Phoenix. That is expected. The time on the display is correct.
Samsung Tizen displays
| Region | Time all year | If the display is set to | Change it to |
|---|---|---|---|
| British Columbia | UTC−7 | US/Pacific | US/Arizona |
| Alberta and Northwest Territories | UTC−6 | US/Mountain | Canada/Saskatchewan |
| Manitoba | UTC−5 | US/Central | America/Bogota |
Displays in the United States use US/Pacific, US/Mountain, and US/Central too. Change only the displays that are in Canada.
Windows
Microsoft added new Canadian timezones in the October 2026 Windows update. Installing the update is not enough, because signageOS sets the timezone you choose in Box. Use the timezones from the table above.
Don't select the new Canadian timezone in Windows by hand. The next time setting from Box replaces it.
How to change the timezone
- In Box, open the device and go to the Settings tab, Time card.
- Select the new timezone from the table above. Keep the NTP server as it is.
- Confirm the change.
To change many displays at once, set the timezone with the REST API, PUT /v1/device/{deviceUid}/time, for each display. See the REST API reference.
Changing the timezone restarts most displays or the signageOS app on them, so plan it outside opening hours.
If you set the timezone with a Device Policy, change it in the policy and also set it on the displays directly. Until November 1, the old and the new timezone show the same time, so the displays don't take the new timezone from the policy on their own.
Displays that need no change
- Displays in Yukon and Saskatchewan. These regions stopped changing their clocks years ago.
- Displays in the rest of Canada, such as Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces. They still change their clocks as before.
- Displays in the United States.
