While signageOS streamlines control across multiple platforms for easier deployment and management, individual platforms offer additional layers of control beyond the unified feature set.
With Sony devices, you can take advantage of both the core functionalities and Sony-specific extended controls. This article provides a brief overview of extra settings and management options that allow you to further customize your Sony devices and maximize the performance of your deployed displays.
Please note that Extended control is only available to users who provision their device via Bulk provisioning and QR code, for more information on how to get your devices provisioned can be found in their respective documentation articles here:
Extended control
Once you have provisioned your Sony device navigate to device detail and click "Extended control" tab.
Under this menu you will see additional information about your device, these include the following:
- Device name
- Model name
- Serial number
- Device ID
- MAC Address (Wired)
- MAC Address (Wi-Fi)
- Screen On/Off status
- Pro Mode
- External Input
- External Input Status
- Volume
Underneath the information table you will find customisable settings in several categories.
PRO mode settings allow you to switch between NORMAL/PRO_SETTINGS/PRO options. NORMAL switches the device to "user settings" allowing the device to operate as a consumer-grade device. PRO_SETTINGS allows you to set up the custom settings depending on your choices. PRO turns the device into a "professional" signage display with limited options for usability.
As such if you are interested in using Extended controls PRO_SETTINGS is the recommended option.
AC Power on
The AC Power options settings allow you to select different cooling modes for the device.
- Always off - cooling is always off
- On - cooling is always active
- Standard - cooling is controlled automatically by device temperature
Operation
This setting allows you to remotely switch between input sources, including HDMI 1-4 and AV
Control
The Control option lets you decide through which means can the device receive control commands from external devices.
- Off - No external control
- Via HDMI port - Display can be controlled via HDMI inputs
- Via serial port - Display can be controlled via Serial port
Wake-up on signal
With this setting you can easily pick if and which signals should wake up your device, options available right now are:
- Always enabled - anytime an input comes to your device it will wake up
- Disabled - entirely disables wake-up for the device
- Input change only - device wakes up upon input change
- Specified hours - during specified hours the device will wake up
Display
Display settings let you choose the desired Picture Mode for your display. You can also enable Auto Picture Mode, which adjusts the setting based on content from HDMI devices, and activate the Light Sensor, which dynamically adjusts brightness according to ambient lighting.
Home key behavior
This setting lets you choose which application launches when you press the Home key on the remote control.
Network and internet
For additional network setting you can pick between DHCP and Static address for your IP, none or manual for Proxy setting and Enable/Disable Wi-Fi.
Pro mode lock
Allows you to set a PIN code to unlock/lock the PRO mode
USB Drive auto run
With this option you will be able to set behavior of the display once a USB is plugged in, you can enable:
- Import settings
- Install BPK
- Install Web App
- Launch Web App
Initial input source
Select which input you want your display to select on initialisation.
Power
Modify the power settings of your display to optimise the longevity of your devices
