Deprecation Notice: Android 5.0 / 5.1 (Lollipop) Support

Effective Date: January 1, 2026

Starting in 2026, signageOS will no longer develop new features for devices running Android 5.0 and 5.1 (Lollipop). All future development will target Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and above.

This change aligns with broader trends in the Android ecosystem, including updates to AndroidX libraries which have raised their minimum supported SDK version from 21 (Android 5.0) to 23 (Android 6.0).

Deprecation Notice: Android 4.4 (Kitkat) Support

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

Although several new features are still being included in Android 4.4 releases, majority of new features are already limited to Android 5+ or Android 6+ due to platform constraints.

Hosted Applet-Synchronizer Service

Effective Date: December 31, 2024

Reason for Deprecation
We are committed to providing the most efficient and up-to-date technology to our customers. To this end, the current Websocket-based Applet Synchronizer is being replaced by a more advanced technology: P2P (Peer-to-Peer) synchronization. This change is part of our ongoing effort to enhance service quality and performance.

Deprecation Timeline and Steps

1. 1st June: The source code for the Applet Synchronizer service will be made publicly available on GitHub under an open-source license. This will allow anyone interested to access and use the code.

2. 1st September: We will notify all customers to take the necessary action for deploying their own instance of the service. This step is crucial for those who wish to continue using the Applet Synchronizer functionality.

3. 31st December 2024: The original service hosted at applet-synchronizer.signageos.io will be officially shut down.

RaspberryPi 3

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

End of feature development for RaspberryPi 3 and CM3. Development continued for RaspberryPi 4 and 5. Although several new features are still being included in RaspberryPi 3 releases, majority of new features are already limited to RaspberryPi 4 and 5 due to platform constraints.
